25-ACRE ASH LANDFILL CLOSURE

PROJECT SCOPE

The scope of work at this 24 acre ash landfill closure was to reshape the existing ash surface to meet design grades, Install an 18” impervious clay liner layer followed by a 12” protective cover layer, matting and grassing. Within the final design CBP also constructed the stone access road to the top for future maintenance and inspections. For storm water control, CBP installed down drain pipes on each end of the cap as well as a rip rap channel along the access road & perimeter channels.

Upon completion of the main project an additional project was added. The scope of the project was to dismantle and close the 2.5 acre geosynthetic & concrete lined runoff pond that was no longer required since the landfill was completely closed. The tasks for this project was to remove an dispose of all perimeter fencing, demolish the existing pump station, clean out the entire pond of sediment and transport them to the onsite landfill, remove the concrete protective surface from the floor and side slopes followed by removal of the liner system materials and dispose of them in the onsite landfill. Once all clean up was completed, the pond was backfilled with 40,000 cyds of onsite soils and graded to drain per design and vegetated.
